Got the summer break blues? Looking for cool projects that foster a love of libraries? Bring your young reader to meet a graphic novelist, a zinester, and former Librarian for American Indigenous Studies at Harvard University!
Author JULIE FIVEASH visits two SDPL branches to share from their new book, The Froggy Library. This graphic novel draws in part from the author’s Diné background and career as a librarian; the presentation, which includes some fun drawing, will help get your young reader excited about family, community, graphic novels AND libraries.
Click above to register for this event at one of the following two branch libraries:
- 1pm at the Skyline Hills Branch Library: 7900 Paradise Valley Road, San Diego , CA 92139
- 4:30 pm at the San Diego Central Library: 330 Park Blvd., San Diego, CA 92101
Free to attend! RSVP is encouraged, but not required, and walk-ins are very welcome. Julie will sign their book for readers who purchase a copy at the event; all proceeds from book sales support the San Diego Public Library.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Anura is a young frog spending the summer back home with their grandmother.
With some…er…gentle prodding from Grandma, they get a job working at the LOCAL LIBRARY. At just about 11 minutes in, Anura is tasked with a big project: create an archive that captures what makes Soggy Stump so special.
What the heck even is an archive?!
So begins a summer of fun, community, fry bread, weaving, zines and more. Join Anura as they learn the importance of preserving the knowledge, memories and wisdom of the ones we love.
“Fetchingly oddball, with an engaging storyline.” – Kirkus
“A fun, frog-filled love letter to Indigenous communities.” – School Library Journal
