Sona’s visit will be a fun brunch hour of questionable parenting, baby races, and virgin mimosas, followed by a book talk and signing.
WORLD’S WORST MOM is a book for the people who love their kids, but who are also pretty sure that the whole project of trying to raise them must be a hidden-camera-practical-joke-slash-science-experiment. Together we answer the critical questions: how do you survive on this little sleep and who is in charge around here? It’s not you, is it? OH GOD, IT IS.
This is a fun day out for parents and families, with a twist. No purchase required; RSVP encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome.

While this event is free to attend, we always recommend that you pre-order your book for signature! All proceeds support programs at the San Diego Public Library.
For one Saturday afternoon only, Library Shop is also excited to offer readers the Bad Mom Brunch Special: readers attending the book talk will receive a complimentary pour of the World’s Worst Mimosa! Do these sparkling drinks include any spirits? ABSOLUTELY NOT, but they are very spirited. World’s Worst Mimosas are available only while supplies last. Plain, non-sparkling OJ also available for younger children. Coloring book pages will be provided for any kid old enough not to eat the crayons.
SCHEDULE
- 11am, BAD MOM BABY RACE
We kick off the festivities with a Bad Mom Baby Race. If your youngster is crawling or toddling, but not quite walking, please bring them along to enter! Winners receive a $50 Library Shop gift card!
- We need at least two guardians to support each racing child in the bookstore: one at the starting line, and one at the finishing line to encourage movement.
- To protect your child’s identity, we request that you provide them with a unique racer name at the time of entry. Examples: “Bad Binky”, “The Diaper Streak,” or “Dungeon Crawler Carl.” Registrations will be accepted on a walk-on basis until we have just enough racers to fit on the racing rug. Your child’s racer name will be used by our “barkers” to call the race progress on microphone as kids progress across the rug to guardian # 2. Silly racer names get extra credit.
- The first kid to connect with their parent across the rug wins!
11:15am, WORLD’S WORST MOM BOOK TALK
Following the baby race and after guests have topped up their “brunch,” we turn to a conversation with Sona Movsesian about The World’s Worst Mom.
- Additional copies of The World’s Worst Mom will be available for purchase at the event on a first come, first served basis.
- A small coloring book table will be set up in the back by the baby race rug for families with kids to entertain during the talk.
