What is a living trust – and do you need one?

Kymberly Mueller, Director of Major & Planned Gifts

Our estate planning webinar series continued in October with California Living Trust Basics with Jennifer McGibbons. The webinar was the third in a popular Library Foundation series intended to provide trusted estate planning information from professionals in the field. The webinar is for informational purposes. Be sure to consult your qualified professional advisors regarding your individual circumstances.

Jennifer McGibbons is a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust, and Probate Law and the founding partner of Sullivan, McGibbons, Crickard & Associates, LLP in San Diego. Jennifer’s practice is focused in the areas of estate planning, trust and estate administration, probate, and charitable planning. The webinar covered the basics of California Living Trusts and other considerations as part of your estate planning, including:

  • What is a living trust?
  • What is the difference between a will and living trust?
  • What are other ways to transfer property and avoid probate?
  • Some of the issues to consider when creating a trust.

Additionally, Jennifer explained ways that a living trust can protect your assets, provide for your loved ones, and make a charitable impact. Read more about Jennifer McGibbons (HERE) and watch a replay of this webinar below.*

We also highlighted Carnegie Society members Randi Dropkin and Phyllis Charlton during the webinar. Libraries have always played a role in their lives, from childhood to careers and beyond. This inspired them to give back by making a lasting gift in their trust, and designating the Library Foundation a contingent beneficiary of their retirement plans. Randi shared that libraries are hidden gems – so many resources and all free! Anyone is welcome.” Read more about their story and how you can use your estate to make an impact in the community here.
