Report finds increase in attempts to ban books

KPBS Mid-Day Edition

A new report from the American Library Association found a rise in attempts to ban books across the country. To help counter the trend, libraries nationwide and in San Diego are celebrating Banned Books Week. Jade Hindmon of KPBS Mid-Day Edition spoke with Library Foundation SD CEO Patrick Stewart and San Diego Public Library Director Misty Jones about the national trend and efforts in San Diego to ensure public access to diverse voices.

I should say, it doesn’t stop with just banning books. What we’re seeing across the country is they’re banning voices, modern voices, librarians, teachers. It’s gone beyond just the banning of a book, or a certain piece of literature or textbook.”
